Abortion Pill Reversal is Needed Now More Than Ever

Through July of this year, Ohio has reported 17,077 abortions. Of those, 10,786 (63%) were drug-induced, also known as chemical abortions. These figures do not include abortion drugs ordered online and delivered directly to individuals who complete self-managed abortions at home without medical supervision.

Without in-person medical oversight, mail-order abortions may pose additional risks because there is no opportunity to screen for coercion, inaccurate gestational dating, sex trafficking, or ectopic pregnancies. Is the woman making the decision voluntarily? Is a partner answering questions on her behalf? Does she appear frightened or under pressure? Does she fully understand the medication she is receiving, along with its potential risks and complications? Does she have access to emergency medical care if needed? Could she be a minor? Is someone else controlling the transaction?

According to the Charlotte Lozier Institute, drug-induced abortion has a complication rate four times higher than that of surgical abortion. Recently, Heartbeat International released a report documenting cases of abortion pill poisonings and forced abortions. The report will be updated as additional cases become public.

Sometimes, a woman regrets taking the abortion pill and urgently seeks help to reverse its effects. No woman should ever be forced to complete an abortion she no longer wants. She deserves to know that she has a choice and the opportunity to change her mind. She deserves someone who will help her write a different ending to her story.
