Celebrating the Faithful Life and Service of Jennifer Thompson

We pause to honor the life of a cherished member of the PDHC family. Jennifer was a faithful volunteer, devoted staff member, and treasured friend to many. Her journey with PDHC began as a volunteer in 2010. She continued to volunteer wherever there was a need, including serving as a center consultant, assisting with parenting classes, and providing a voice of hope to countless women on the hotline beginning in 2017. She joined the hotline staff in 2021, and God continued to use her voice to bring hope where there was fear, peace where there was uncertainty, and compassion when there was loneliness. Although her voice has grown silent here on earth, her echoes of hope will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of those she served. We know she is hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23. 

Jennifer’s words from her PDHC Employee Spotlight:

"My journey with PDHC started in the fall of 2009, at Mission Night at our church, I started volunteering at West in April 2010. I was a Greeter and did data entry - that was back in the days before everything was done in the room with the laptops. The hotline was very different back then, too!

I have been able to serve in many different roles. I became a consultant when data entry was no longer needed, helped with EWYL (earn while you learn) parenting classes, and have been with connections since February of 2017. I became involved with the current parenting class program during Covid, helping in whatever way I can. In late 2021, Rachel asked me if I would be interested in coming on staff.

I have been married to Kris, my high school sweetheart, for 31 years. We have two grown daughters and a son-in-law. We love going to Lake Erie in the summer, mostly just sitting, watching the water. We went to the lake for the eclipse, and that was pretty great! Another favorite spot is Cherry Valley Hotel in Newark. I love doing crossword puzzles and have been addicted to Wordle for quite a while. I do like to read and enjoy doing Bible studies."

Her husband Kris shared that sitting by the lakeside watching the sunset was their heaven on earth. He said she loved her crosswords, and did them all day every day to keep her mind sharp. Although they could no longer do it as much as they wanted, they also enjoyed antiquing together. He shared about her witty sense of humor, how she knew and remembered everyone’s birthdays, about their families, and their children’s names, and commented that her work on the PDHC hotline is what drove her every day, despite her illness. 

At her funeral he shared from 2 Timothy 4: 7-8, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” He also shared her favorite scripture, Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.
