A young Spanish-speaking woman arrived at our center recently, accompanied by close friends. We welcomed her and explained the services offered at PDHC. She had come seeking a pregnancy test, unsure of what to do next.
With honesty and vulnerability, she shared that she felt uncertain about continuing the pregnancy. While the baby’s father said he would support her decision she noted that he really had not shared many of his thoughts with her about the pregnancy. The client shared that she came from a Christian background, she admitted she wasn’t currently connected to any church or spiritual community and lacked local family support. But the two faithful friends who accompanied her promised to stand by her if she needed help.
An ultrasound was offered and performed by a nurse for this client. The nurse walked her through all the options available to her, including parenting and the support offered through PDHC programs. When adoption was gently mentioned, she quietly shook her head. When asked if she wanted to revisit abortion information, she again shook her head and said with conviction, “No, I will keep the baby.”
Moments later, she shared that she had texted the father, and he had responded happily—he was on his way to join her at PDHC!
Since that first visit, she has continued to receive care through our center. She recently visited and wrote a testimony about her experience, The following statement has been translated into English: “Their care has been excellent since I started. They have always been very attentive to me and my pregnancy. Now that my baby was born, they are attentive to him. Excellent care.”
In the face of uncertainty, it was friendship and compassionate care that helped her find the confidence to choose life. The support she received and the love from her beautiful baby, friends, the father of the baby, and PDHC allowed her to see that she is not alone on this incredible journey!
